Accessibility Statement

Last updated: 15 August 2026

We want Kissa to be usable by everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, or captions. This is an honest account of where we are — what works, and what does not yet.

1. Our commitment

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, and to follow the accessibility requirements of India’s Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. We treat accessibility as part of building a feature, not a later pass.

2. What we support today

  • Keyboard navigation. Interactive controls are reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible focus indicator.
  • Screen readers. Semantic HTML and ARIA labelling throughout, including the player controls, so state is announced.
  • Contrast. The interface is built on a dark palette designed to meet AA contrast for body text and controls.
  • Reduced motion. A setting to switch off animated transitions, which also respects your operating system’s reduce-motion preference.
  • Scalable text. The layout reflows with browser and OS text-size settings without loss of content.
  • Player control. Play, pause, seek, speed, and volume are all operable without a mouse, and playback position is preserved across sessions.
  • Offline listening. Downloads let you listen without depending on a stable connection.

3. Known gaps

We would rather tell you what does not work than let you discover it. As of the date above:

  • No transcripts or captions. Kissa is an audio-first platform and episodes currently ship without text transcripts, which makes the catalogue largely inaccessible to Deaf and hard-of-hearing users. We consider this our most significant gap.
  • Image descriptions are inconsistent. Episode imagery is uploaded by creators, and alternative text is not yet required at upload, so screen-reader users may hear a generic description.
  • The creator studio is less tested. Upload and editing flows have had less assistive-technology testing than the listening experience.
  • No formal audit yet. Our WCAG conformance is self-assessed. We have not commissioned an independent accessibility audit.

4. What we are working on

  • Transcripts for episodes, starting with new uploads.
  • Prompting creators for alternative text as part of the upload flow.
  • Screen-reader testing of the creator studio.
  • An independent audit once the current round of creator tools has landed.

These are commitments of intent, not dated guarantees. We will update this page as they land.

5. Assistive technology and your device

Kissa is a standard web application and works with the assistive technology built into your device — VoiceOver, TalkBack, NVDA, JAWS, and OS-level zoom, contrast, and text-size settings. If a system setting is not being respected, that is a bug on our side; please tell us.

6. Report a barrier

If something on Kissa is hard or impossible for you to use, email hello@kissa.texotic.in with “Accessibility” in the subject. Telling us the page, what you were trying to do, and the assistive technology you were using helps us reproduce it fastest.

We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within 3 working days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can escalate through Grievance Redressal. If you need information from Kissa in an alternative format, ask and we will provide it.
